Amazing results after 2.5 months. Really improved the quality of my life.

Context:
I bought this book, in July, and I have been implementing / following it's principles to the best of my ability ever since.
I come from a Low-Carb/Paleo background, and I used to do strength training, but all of that changed when I found out I had cancer. After I realized that LowCarb/Paleo doesn't make you immune to cancer (as it is sometimes implied by some authorities) and also that I didn't knew enough about cancer, I started researching about different theories/nutritional approaches that I could implement, either therapeutically or after I got better.
Eventually I came across Dr. Raymond Peat's articles, and although they can sometimes be a little cryptic, his ideas seemed very interesting and resonated with me, although I wasn't quite sure how to implement some of them in a more practical way, because he doesn't lay out a simple plan/approach.
This book came exactly at the right time and provided me with a more practical set of principles, based on Dr. Ray's work (and others).

What I did:
- I increased my calorie intake from a maximum of 2500 Kcal (Low-Carb/Paleo), to more than 3000 Kcal a day (50%-60% Carbs), using whole foods, following the principles laid out in the book.
- I stopped strength training (Wendler 5/3/1) because I needed a break and also to start enjoying exercise again, so I started doing isolation/bodybuilding stuff 2 times a week (1 movement for the biceps/triceps/pecs/abs/lats), and 2 days a week I started doing squats/deadlifts (light stuff), pushups/dips and some type of pull up.
- Every training session lasts only 30 minutes, and I NEVER get to the point were I am breathing heavy, the point is to do more total reps/weight/total volume than last time on each exercise.
- I started reintroducing dairy slowly, as I had really strong reactions to it (and some other foods as well, although not as intense), such as abdominal pain/"loose bowels", that would sometimes last for weeks. I started with cheese and then moved on to milk.
- I started going to bed early EVERY day.

Results:
- My body fat went down, to the point I can now see my Abs and a lot of veins throughout my body, which lost it's "fluffy" type look.
- My body weight went from 176 lbs to 163 lbs, although some was lost muscle because I stopped strength training.
- My sleep it's not perfect (it hasn't been for a long time and it's still a work in progress), but it improved significantly in quality, since it's much deeper than before and it's usually full of dreams.
- Temperature (under the tongue) has upped from some cadaveric lows to close to normal levels (36.4 to 37.2 degrees throughout the day) and it's still a work in progress I think.
- I can drink milk again (at least up until 800 mL in a row), without any noticeable adverse reactions, and there is no more sensitivity to any of the foods that previously gave problems as well.
- I think that there was also a redistribution of fat throughout my body (less fat In my face, arms and legs), but I'm not 100% sure, as I don't have a lot of fat anymore.
- My head feels clearer, my ability to think has definitely improved.
- I just feel better overall.

P.s.: This journey hasn't been all rosy, in spite of all of the positive changes that I have described. There were some setbacks along the way, but you will have to push forward (within reason) in order to be successful with this approach, particularly if you have high stress hormones throughout the day, in which case you will feel like crap for a while, because those hormones will go down, so that your thyroid can slowly start taking over, and that might take a while, depending on you particular situation.
Dairy tolerance will start going up also, in time. Keep increasing the amounts progressively, and don't be afraid to cut dairy off, for a day or two, if you start having adverse reactions. Let the body "reset" then start again from where you left off or a lower amount.

Free from dieting!!!

Great information!!! I have been doing what this book suggests and feel so much more content and free with food! I was previously on a no carb and no sugar diet and although at first it is effective with losing weight it ultimately slowed down my metabolism. I now follow what this book suggests and I am at the weight I wanted to be without doing anything extreme or strict. I feel that I healed my thyroid and metabolism and now I eat as much as I feel like. My weight was previously 140 and I am now at 118 lbs. I drink raw milk daily and orange juice daily. I also have gelatin and bone broth several times a week. When I weighed 140 lbs I worked out everyday very hard. Now I hardly work out just because I'm busy with my daughter and I'm maintaining my weight at 118lbs.

A rare gem

Too often we see thin, unsubstantial, unreferenced books in the health and wellness realm. Mostly I suspect due to a lack of any deeper understanding of the subjects therein. This book is a rare gem; surprisingly comprehensive, non-dogmatic, yet reads breezily. It's built on the very strong but very unconventional (and relatively dense) research of Dr. Raymond Peat (and others). Their findings are woven together and disseminated by the author in very practical, actionable ways anyone can apply to themselves. I also appreciate the emphasis given on foods over supplements. Thanks to the author for filling the void :)

Absolute must if you work in this field

The chief virtue is its clarity. I've worked directly in this field since 1986, and wish I'd picked up the 1st edition in 1992 rather than finding the 2nd edition in 2006. Most of the material I've picked up through coursework and on-the-job training, but this book presents a thorough, practical and understandable development of each aspect of aircraft control and simulation. In addition, the 1st chapter provides the basis for incorporating oblate, rotating Earth equations into gravitational and kinematics modeling, which is the reason I bought the book.

An algorithm for converting from Earth-centered Inertial coordinates to Geodetic Latitude and Altitude for an oblate Earth model is now provided. If a flat Earth model is ok to use, the 1st Edition is a very good aircraft controls book. If a rotating oblate Earth model is also required, only the 2nd Edition will do.

Aircraft Control

This book, in my opinion, is a must have book for any aircraft controls engineer. Very practical so you don't get lost in the theory, and it uses an F16 linear model throughout the book (for example problems) so the numbers mean something as opposed to other books that just have random numbers in the examples. It's also easy to read and it gives matlab and fortran code for most example problems. I recommend the 2nd edition because more informations was added and nothing taken away from the 1st edition.

A New Classic

I'm a flight controls engineer and this book is all I need to do my job. I had been looking for something that dealt with the subject from a modern controls perspective, but most other books either only deal with classical controls, or were written using strange (European) notation and conventions. The authors start out with the equations of motion, assuming only that this is a rigid body. Most other books just go straight to the linearized decoupled equations and make a lot of hand waving when it comes to including wind or time varying derivatives. Next they cover design of all standard control loops from a SISO approach and finally delve into modern design techniques. To find this much material, you'd normally need to consult several books, and then you probably wouldn't have any MIMO examples that apply to a real airplane. The book does present code examples, but consider these only references. If you're interested in doing this for a living, you'll have to learn how to code in Matlab and possibly C/C++ (take it from me, I actually do this for a living). Consider this a modern version of either Blakelock or Roskam. Unlike those other guys, this book does have solved examples.

This book opened my eyes to how men really, truly jockey for position in relationships and how to turn that heartache around. If you find yourself getting continuously wined and dined and pumped and dumped, this book will hold up a mirror to your life and set you straight. Be prepared for 100% brutal honesty! And it isn’t about playing silly games or following outdated “rules.” The book goes through a detailed blueprint of how to conduct yourself on a date, in a relationship, etc., but when it comes down to it, it’s all about self-respect, self-confidence, and never putting your true needs under the whims and desires of a guy who is just interested in making you a placeholder. excellent for sharing the story of the Buddha with children

If you can, read Old Path White Clouds. However, that is a very long and detailed book. If you need a more concise and simplified version, for instance for sharing with children by reading out loud and discussing, this is an excellent choice.

This is a very engaging and beautiful story. It is also easily readable, written in Thich Nhat Hanh's wonderfully clear style. He hits the heart every time. I even felt quite peaceful while reading it; somehow the feeling of the Buddha's times and experience of life transmitted to my being. I loved Siddhartha, but I don't think that it quite had the effect on me that this book did.

Gets straight to the point quickly. Excellent for daily reading.

This book is small in size, but powerful in its practical information. I'm reading in this book every day even after I've finished the complete book. It is small enough to carry with you wherever you go (6 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 1/2) .

He gives suggestions on prioritizing what you think and do, giving excellent examples that provide information and motivation for change or continuing habits.

Here are a few I picked at random: in the chapter on FAMILY: "Express appreciation for each other." "Resolve conflict as quickly as possible."

Chapter on THINKING: "Recognize There Are Many Kinds of Thinking." In that chapter a subheading is "MANAGING THE DISCIPLINE OF THINKING" one of which is: "Set Aside Think Time Every Day."

And so forth. Even if you only read one chapter or only the headings you would experience some benefit, but I think a reader would benefit from reading every chapter over and over because the purpose is to change our thinking and habits.

A Life Never Forgotten

In March to Freedom Edith Singer states, "When I was liberated by the Russian Army on May 8, 1945, in a small German village, I promised myself that I would not talk or think about concentration camp ever again." How fortunate the world is that she did not keep her promise. March to Freedom is an excellent read that illustrates a young woman's fight for survival through one of the darkest periods in human history.

Although the Jewish Holocaust is one of the most horrific moments in world history, it must be remembered, and the stories must be told if humanity is to learn from the past and prevent its mistakes from reoccurring.

Edith Singer demonstrates courage and strength throughout the pages of her personal memoir sharing her experiences in Auschwitz and the Taucha labor camp with explicit detail. Singer's narrative tone, personal stories, and attention to detail permit readers of all ages to experience her journey of survival. In less than one hundred pages, readers witness her unwavering dedication to life. She explains how as a young woman she fought against the Germans and maintained dignity even when they attempted to destroy her identity. When forced to receive a tattoo on her arm, she expressed, "They are de-humanizing me. I will not be a person any more, only a number. Now, I am marked just like cattle"(52). Despite the evils of humanity, Edith Singer shines as a beacon of hope, retains her faith, and encourages others to stay strong. Even when she is weak from starvation and tempted with extra food, she remains vigilant and determined to fight against the Germans by sabotaging munitions. Her example of strength and honor is expressed throughout the book and readers will learn valuable lessons from her experiences. Edith Singer's personal story of survival is an inspiration to all and should not be missed.

A True Account of the Holocaust

Sixty-three years have passed since the Germans surrendered to Allied forces in the spring of 1945, yet the horror of Nazi atrocities remains as vivid in our collective social consciousness as ever. Books written by and about concentration camp survivors continue to be relevant today, reaching into the hearts and minds of yet another generation for whom the idea of genocide seems more like something from the movies than from history.

Edith Singer is one of those clear voices bridging the past to the present. Her direct and insightful perusal of her experiences in Auschwitz strikes a strangely alarming mix of emotions within the soul. One so far removed from them by both time and political systems feels both a sense of disbelief that such inhumanity could really have occurred, and of dread that if it happened once it could very well happen again.

Ms. Singer's nearly detached observations of events that were most assuredly the stuff of nightmares, demonstrates just how deeply affected she was by them, like a physician desensitized to the carnage around him. Without that desensitization, his emotions would overwhelm him and he could do no good. Ms. Singer likewise allows the reader to draw his responses from his own reservoir of suppressed emotion.

The effect is startling. From her description of standing naked as Joseph Mengele selected the day's gas chamber victims, to the absence of children in the camp due to their immediate executions upon arrival at Auschwitz, the reader cannot help but be changed by Singer's tale.

For this reason, March to Freedom stands as a vivid reminder of the depths to which humanity can sink if left unchecked, and of the heights to which we can and should reach to keep freedom in our grasp.

The Nazis put Edith and her family in Auschwitz when she was 16 and later moved her to Taucha. In this book, Edith tells what life was like inside these two camps.

Despite the horrible conditions of camp, Edith stays optimistic, finds extra food and clothing for herself and others, and sabotages a munitions factory.

My favorite part is where Edith talks about resistance: "I resisted the Nazis, but I was not alone. Whether it was intentional sabotage or quiet suffering, it was resistance. Not giving in to the hunger and cold, not breaking down from the grueling work, enduring every imaginable pain, anguish, and torture--that was resistance. Every one of us who survived--and many who did not--resisted."

That's powerful!

I let my teenage daughter read this book, and she loved it because the book is intense, short, and incredible. The book is full of interesting details and shows the importance of family.

March to Freedom is a great introduction to the experience of the holocaust, and it inspires people by showing them how one young woman stayed positive in a horrible situation.
