Very good presentation on the language but kinda superficial.

This is a very good book. The quality of the material is excellent and the audio recordings as well. However, although it covers content from B1 and B2 it is VERY SUPERFICIAL.

A exemple: It only talk about Nebensätze (subordinate clauses) on the last 2 chapters while this is an topic for A2 level. Not to mention that it is limited to the use of "dass...". No "deshalb", "trotzden", "damit", "dafür", etc...

So, if you are a newcomer and has no purposes such as proficiency exams etc... This book will be great for you. You will be able to read and understand a lot of things. But, if you ALREADY studied German, and need to be prepared for the B1, I strongly recommend this one:

Love the course but they need to update description

I know a lot of people complained about all the pics and glossy pages in this course but hey, I am a frills kinda gal and it actually made the course more appealing to me. They really need to update the description as there is only one CD with the course. They put all the content on one CD and instead of writing a new description, they just copied and pasted it from the old course page. So don't fret, same course, 2 CD content on ONE CD; you are not being cheated, Amazon web manager just got lazy. But then again, he may not have realized it. Either way, I think the course is worth getting....as well as the other books to: Essential German Grammar, the vocabulary book, how to improve your German, etc. Just get it all! LOL!

My opinion after a week using Teach Yourself for the first time

I wish I could compare this book to the pre-2010 editions, but this is my first time using Teach Yourself.

From what I've seen on other polyglots' videos, the German Teach Yourself books have gone through some major facelift in 2010, and the 2013 edition has inherited the paper quality, colors and pictures. Personally, those are no more than frills - all these pictures take up space and add nothing to the content. However, by comparing to a video review I saw from the 2010 edition, I could see that they removed the full-page pictures, which is a "step back in the right direction", and either added content to those pages (tips about the culture) or, less likely, just reorganized the content. I'm looking forward for other opinions on this, as I don't have another edition at hand.

Now, Amazon advertises it as if it came with two Audio CDs, but it comes in fact with a single MP3 CD. Not a problem at all in my opinion, but it should be advertised accordingly - the box comes with the correct information.

Regarding the method itself, I like it so far. It doesn't try to take you by the hand and explain everything, and you often come across phrases that aren't explained in the book, but that you can infer meaning.

So far, I can easily recommend this. I just wish they got rid of all the useless pictures.

This book is a reprint of the 1913 edition published by Cosmopolitan Magazine. IT IS NOT A COMPLETE VERSION. Some parts, I think the most typical for Jack London, are absent. (For example sport games and fighting in Weasel Park, Chapter IV, are not present in this edition.)
I think the version can be used to comparative analysis by specialists in history of literature but if you want to take pleasure in reading I strongly recommend you to purchase another edition.

What a great book!!

I read this book after biking through a lot of the California towns London mentions. I pedaled through Glen Ellen and saw some of the missions. Since I am male, I could relate to the character of Billy. He is an early 20th century renaissance man. I never got bored with this book. It has a lot of personal meaning to me. I come from some of the "old stock" Billy and Saxon refer to. Tons of detail. I had to read it twice to get all the details. If you like northern California and want to know what it was like 100 years ago, read this.

As in many of his books, Jack London enraptes the reader, but this time in a story of love. It is extremely refreshing because it shows the good side of true love without that sickening sweetness so many love stories have... I read this book a few years back and read it again just recently. I am SIXTEEN. This book is definetly one that many can enjoy, no matter your age.

Nothing new, nothing bad.

There weren't any reviews for this book, so I decided to take a chance.

I'm a fan of the Follow Me To instagram account, and personally find the pictures beautiful and inspiring. I expected to see many of the same pictures, but was expecting to perhaps see some new ones that weren't posted publicly, as well as to get more background on the pictures, the situations, and the photographer (and muse) themselves. Most of all, I wanted the photographs in a tangible form to pull out, look at, and be inspired anytime I wanted.

On the last account I'm not disappointed, the book is large and the pictures are the focus inside (one square page is a whole picture, and a whole page of "information" is next to it). I have read criticisms of the photographs themselves online, that they are not high-quality, blurry, over-saturated, etc, and seeing them larger than on an iphone you do tend to notice their faults more. Almost every picture inside the book is available on their instagram account and the information about the photos is sparse (I'm talking "This is ____, it was beautiful here. We were moved." being the essential template). I really wish more information was given, possibly a paragraph or two (when it was taken, about the trip, other things about the place, costume choice, etc) instead of the tweet-length blurb provided.

All of that being said, I really do like the book. It's inspires me to travel and see the world, and that's exactly why I bought it. If they came out with another one would I buy it? Absolutely. At the end of the day its the concept and the pictures which are the most striking and important!

this is a very well put together book, if you have followed them on social media you'll love it even more! the photos are stunning and they don't look like 'vacation' photos, but actually tell a story about this couples travels.

This book is an introduction to embedded systems. Specific topics include microcontrollers, fixed-point numbers, the design of software in assembly language and C, elementary data structures, programming input/output including interrupts, analog to digital conversion, digital to analog conversion. This book employs many approaches to learning. It will not include an exhaustive recapitulation of the information in data sheets. First, it begins with basic fundamentals, which allows the reader to solve new problems with new technology. Second, the book presents many detailed design examples. These examples illustrate the process of design. There are multiple structural components that assist learning. Checkpoints, with answers in the back, are short easy to answer questions providing immediate feedback while reading. Simple homework, with answers to the odd questions on the web, provides more detailed learning opportunities. The book includes an index and a glossary so that information can be searched. The most important learning experiences in a class like this are of course the laboratories. Each chapter has suggested lab assignments. More detailed lab descriptions are available on the web. About the Author
Jonathan Valvano has been teaching microcontrollers and embedded systems at the University of Texas at Austin for 33 years. This is his fourth college textbook. His previous three textbooks on the Freescale 9S12 have been used at over 18 universities around the world. He earned his BS and MS from MIT in 1977 in the fields of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. In 1981, he received his PhD from Harvard-MIT in the field of biomedical engineering. He has over 100 journal papers, 9 book chapters and 10 patents in the medical device research area. He is a cofounder of a successful medical device company, specializing in miniature and low-power cardiac measurements. The reason he has received numerous teaching awards at the University of Texas is because he and his students share a common interest at the very core of the education process: the students’ own success. “It is difficult to find a professor that tries harder to educate and inspire his students than Professor Valvano” – Robin Tsang. Valvano lives by this motto, “There are three steps to immortality: acknowledge your limitations, ask for forgiveness, and then do something special today to make the world a better place.”

Better than the datasheet

A good introduction to this new family of microcontrollers. Looking forward to reading additional books on the subject from Dr. Valvano and other authors as these processors get more widely adopted.

When it comes to TI uC's it's hard to beat Dr Valvano

"Tan has added another insightful volume to his published works. In this book he provides a cogent, balanced, and objective evaluation of the strategy behind the Global War on Terror, avoiding the polemics so often found in such discussions. Tan not only considers the mistakes that have been made in response to the attacks of 9/11 - most obviously the ill-fated invasion of Iraq in 2003 - but he leaves little doubt that the invasion of Iraq, unlike the preceding invasion of Afghanistan, led to increases in terrorist activities and led to generalized discontent and doubts about the United States among Muslims. Tan goes further, however, and notes the improvements that made been made in US counterinsurgency strategies in efforts to deal with terrorism around the world. Finally, he looks to the future and notes what additional changes will be necessary to contain, but not defeat, the current terrorist threats. Overall, this book is an important contribution to the literature on international relations theories and terrorism." - James M.
