Couldn't put the book down!

Sharp Shooter has all of the great elements of action, love story, humor, danger and interpersonal relationships all rolled into one book. It was so captivating that I read the entire book in three days. I felt a great connection to the characters and was able to visualize each and every environment and ever changing landscape that the author so eloquently detailed. The love story is what surprised me the most because the author manages to inject this beautiful theme within the dark and dangerous world of the sharp shooter; which kept me on the edge of my seat. I hope that there is a sequel coming!

I am a voracious reader and have read many books by a variety of authors but I have to admit that when an author creates a story where it leaves a “footprint” on our hearts then I feel compelled to give this author a review. There is nothing like the feeling of being part of the characters and feel their connection. Ms. Murray has a very creative style! If this suspenseful story is the author's first book, I look forward to many more of Ms. Murray's stories.

After reading the reviews, I was not too sure what to expect.

To my great surprise and pleasure, this is one of those that I could not put down.

Was there too much sex? Definitely, no.
Was it unbelievable that a person could only realize she is gay in her twenties? Definitely, not.

Two equally strong likeable gorgeous women. Great story line and writing.
How I wish more novels are up to this standard.

Your 1 Stop Shop for Learning about the NEO PI-R

This book provides a great overview of the NEO PI-R, from its conceptual roots, to its current form, to interpretive execises, to research applications. Although the book was originally published in 1998, the material in it is still relevant an timely. Numerous case histories are provided that will allow readers to practice and hone their interpretive skills. One aspect of this book that is the most interesting concerns using the observer rating version of the NEO. Few personality inventories have a validated observer version. Dr. Piedmont provides information on performing cross-observer analyses (COA) with couples. This involves collecting self reports from each member of a couple as well as their ratings of each other. COA involves comparing an individual's self ratings with ratings from their partners. Discrepancies between these two ratings have important implications for the relationship. There are really no developed discussions on how to use self and observer data, this book is almost unique in this way. Finally, the author provides guidelines for using the NEO in a research context. He provides SPSS programs that help individuals analyze NEO PI-R data in useful ways (e.g., for conducting procrustean factor rotations). This book is an excellent resource for researchers, clinicians, and students interested in personality assessment with the Big 5 personality domains. It is "must" reading for anyone interested in serious assessment!

Ralph...what did your mother do to you?

As someone in the field of psychology, I expected much more from this book. The most valuable part of the book was the facet descriptions of each of the five domains, which were copied and pasted from Costa & McCrae's original NEO Personality Inventory manual written six years earlier. I do not think that Piedmont contributed anything unique, interesting, or useful to this book. I would have much rather preferred a bound copy of all of Paul Costa's and Robert McCrae's published articles on the NEO Personality Inventory; it would cost less, be better written, and provide a lot more information.
Ralph, you should be ashamed.

About the Author
Paul Tymann is Professor and Chair of the Computer Science Department at Rochester Institute of Technology. His research interests include bioinformatics, operating systems, networking, parallel computing, and object-oriented programming and design.

G. Michael Schneider is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and Computer Science at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and a Visiting Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University in New York. His interests include parallel processing, computer networks, and computer science education. He has written textbooks on software development, data structures, computer organization, and a breadth-first overview of computer science. Schneider was a member of the committee that authored the ACM/IEEE Computing Curriculum 2001. He has received Fulbright Grants to teach computer science curriculum development in Mauritius, Malaysia, Nepal and Mongolia.

Modern Software Development Usinjg Java by Tymann & Schneider

This is a down-to-earth and classic textbook on software development via Java as the programming language. Some of us may already had Java programming experience in undergraduate classes therefore this book can serve as the Java programming review. On the other hand we can use this book in conjunction with other already excellent textbooks like "Introduction to Programming in Java" by Robert Sedgewich & Kevin Wayne to begin learning Java in undergraduate classes or to brush up our software development and programming experience. The textbook contains lots of useful illustrations and explanations which do help out a lot while we are exploring the Java programming language and apply it in our software development, and therefore I can go ahead and give this textbook or reference book (depending on what we call it) a five star rating. Thank you.

Book for CS 2110 at UVa

My prof at UVa has us reading an online version of this book which is apparently available. I don't like reading from a computer any longer than I have to (irony) so I ordered it. It's cheaper than most textbooks and is definitely helping with the course. Although, pretty much anything in it can be found with a google search. It goes over more of the process of making code than coding itself. If you go to UVa and are a good student and are reading this, you probably don't need this book. If you sleep in class like I do and don't want to have to try to interpret slideshows, you need this book.

This is an amazing book - amazing in the amount of references to the literature in organization behavior. Practically all of the important issues - motivation, communication, groups and teams, leadership, organization design and so on are covered. I am not sure I would use it in a course, but I would keep it handy as a reference for classes on teach on any of these topics. And I would use chapters as readings in various courses.

Robert Sheldon’s MySQL programming is rooted in ten years of experience working with SQL, as it is implemented not only in a MySQL environment, but also within SQL Server, Microsoft Access, and Oracle environments. He has programmed with SQL directly through database interfaces and script files and indirectly through PHP, JSP, ASP, and ASP.NET applications that connected to various databases and issued SQL statements. Robert has also managed the maintenance and development of Web sites and online tools, which has included performing project analysis, developing functional specifications, and managing database and Web development. He has designed and implemented various Microsoft Access, SQL Server, and MySQL databases, as well as developed and implemented a variety of Web-based solutions. In all these roles, he has had to perform numerous types of ad hoc queries and modifications, build databases, create and modify database objects, create and review embedded statements, and troubleshoot system- and data-related problems.
In addition to having a technical and SQL background, Robert has written or co-written nine books on various network and server technologies, including two that have focused on SQL Server design and implementation, one on SQL programming (based on the SQL:1999 standard), and one on Microsoft Office Access 2003. The books that Robert has written contain training material that is designed to teach users specific skills and to test their knowledge of the material covered. Having contracted as the senior developmental editor for the Microsoft certification team, he brought to these books his experience developing exam items that helped to focus readers on the skills necessary to perform specific tasks. Robert has also written and edited a variety of other documentation related to SQL databases and other computer technologies. He works as an independent technical consultant and writer in the Seattle area.

Geoff Moes is a software architect and developer who has designed and implemented databases in MySQL as well as having designed and implemented software systems in PHP, Java/J2EE, and ASP.NET that have utilized MySQL databases through various database connectivity interfaces. Geoff received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech and has worked in the software industry for 18 years. He specializes in software and database architecture and development as it relates to Webbased systems. He has worked with several database products in addition to MySQL, including SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle. He has also developed a variety of software applications that have connected to various databases using several different languages and platforms including Java J2EE/JDBC/EJB, C++/ODBC, and ASP.NET/ODBC/OLEDB.
Geoff’s publishing credits include “Passing Arrays Between Jscript and C++” (September 7, 2000, ASPToday.com, under WROX) and three articles published in Windows & .NET Magazine (online): “Common Internet Hacker Attacks” (December 1, 1998), “Remote Web Administration, Part 2” (November 1, 1998), and “Remote Web Administration, Part 1” (October 1, 1998). Geoff works as an independent software consultant in the Washington D.C. metro area. When he is not in front of the keyboard, he enjoys photography, mountain biking, hiking, and international travel.

I found this book to be very informative, and the authors quite knowledgeable. Stylistically, however, they have a tendency to spoon feed the reader. I have crossed out more than ONE HUNDRED instances of the phrase "as you can see." The use of meaningless redundancies is a crutch that becomes a distraction to the reader. I also think the book could have been better proofread as I've found many slips, like saying parenthesis when they mean single quotes. The term "STRAIGHT JOIN" is written with an underscore in *every* instance - "STRAIGHT_JOIN" is not valid mysql syntax.

This book is still sitting on the shelf. There's nothing wrong with it. It's just that you need to know programming before you buy this book and attempt to understand what it is talking about. It is not for beginners. Yes, it says Beginning MySQL. You are a beginner at MySQL. Otherwise it is a very good book. I know enough now to understand quite a bit of what it is saying, but I'm not ready to take it on just yet. Thanks

These guys are GREAT!

As a recently diagnosed adult ADD'er this book is wonderful! Things that I have struggled with my entire life finally make sense. The short attention span is only a small part of ADD or ADHD as it has all become recognized as. There are a whole host of other "issues" that are directly related that once a person can get their head around then can more effectively deal with. This book is written with the ADD'er in mind first in small bites so that we can easily take the information learned "chew on it for a while" and then figure whether or not it applies and if so how we can then in turn use the information to improve our lives. Secondly, it is written with a sharp sense of humor so the read is an enjoyable one, you look forward to the journey.I hope this helps and if you do get the book that it helps you as much as it has me.

AHHHH! Finally something has come along to explain my experiences over a long lifetime. Wish I had known that I was ADD much earlier, but I have succeeded in life by unconsciously devising my own adaptations and strategies (two Master's Degrees from major universities, and my own business). If you are an adult who has been often frustrated in life, read this ..... if you are a parent with a child who has been diagnosed with ADD or ADDHD, read this yourself, and then using your own judgement maybe have your child read it with you at some point in their life. Believe me, it is such a relief to know I haven't been alone in my struggles! And its all told here with a great sense of humor (I never missed episodes of "The Red Green Show!" ) There is also a great section on strategies for life! Very helpful! ~ Joyous!

Loved it!

This book was so cathartic for me! I laughed, I cried, and I identified. So much of the content resonated with me. Besides the content--which was informative and educational--I loved the personal anecdotes about people with ADHD. I liked how there was humorous commentary by Rick Green and instructional commentary by Dr. Umesh Jain. Additionally, the various traits or characteristics of ADHD, along with the stories and commentary were only one to two pages long; short enough to keep the attention of someone with ADD. The book brought me a sense of relief and hope. I especially recommend the book for adults who have been newly diagnosed.
